* Eric Harland’s Voyager

The drummer Eric Harland has scant few recordings as a bandleader; but look at his resume and you’ll see a whose-who in the last 20 years of the jazz mainstream. Harland is perhaps best known these days as the longtime drummer in Charles Lloyd’s New Quartet, but before then he played behind McCoy Tyner, Kenny Garrett, Ravi Coltrane, Terence Blanchard, Julian Lage and as a member of the SFJAZZ Collective. Currently leading his own group Voyager, and playing with Dave Holland’s Prism and in James Farm with Joshua Redman. He backs up that enviable resume with a commanding presence behind the kit. Favoring up-tempo numbers, you can hear his sticks fly forcefully but not overbearingly from every corner of the room. Two separates sets at 7 and 9 p.m.
