Soul is at the heart of the jazz tradition and Jamison Ross has plenty of it. Originally from Florida where he helped bring his high school band to New York to win Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington competition where he received special awards. He then went on to win the 2012 Monk Compeition for drums, where he showcased his understanding of the soul of jazz. As drummer/composer his compositions feature myriad grooves ranging from classic New Orleans rhythms that jump up and dip down in perfect tempo, to more modern interchanging between hard bop and the closely related hip hop. Two separate sets at 8 and 10 p.m.
