* Nicholas Payton

Grammy-winning trumpeter and bandleader Nicholas Payton makes an appearance here with his trio. You may see him ambidextrously accompany his own trumpet solo with his left hand on the keyboard; he then may switch over to singing one of his originals. His stage show is entertaining, and his compositions are structured to sound a lot more cohesive than may seem possible with that small of a band. He performs two nights at Blues Alley in support of his Afro-Caribbean Mixtape and Black History Month. Two separate sets at 8 and 10 p.m.
