For this year’s virtual edition of the Jazz and Freedom Festival, CapitalBop, Shannon Gunn and Eaton DC have produced a series of musical mini-documentaries honoring the legacies of three venues that disappeared in 2020: Twins Jazz, Alice’s Jazz and Cultural Society and Columbia Station.

The third and final night of the JAFF is dedicated to the Adams Morgan haunt Columbia Station, which provided a regular place for young lions to cut their teeth in Washington, D.C. due to its multiple weekly jam sessions (it also regulary hosted performances by the likes of Butch Warren, Shannon Gunn and others). The documentary will feature an interview with Gunn and pianist Peter Edelman – who not only performed at the Station multiple times a week but also preisded over the jams – conducted by CapitalBop’s own Luke Stewart. The night will also feature a performance by Edelman’s longtime quartet.
