Steel-pan player Victor Provost routinely ranks as not only one of the best percussionists in D.C. and one of the best masters of improvisation on any instrument in the area; he also is often regarded as the most prominent steel-pan player in jazz. His playing is infused with the Caribbean grooves of his upbringing but molds well to nearly any format.
Pianist Alex Brown is an old collaborator of Provost and his pounding bop style meshes extraordinarily well with Provots’ rapid attack on the pan. Just listen to the two of them trade blows on this recording of “Victor’s Tune” from 2018; the energy is ecstatic!
The duo perform a concert that will be broadcast from An Die Musik Live in Baltimore.
The link to the livestream will be emailed once you’ve purchased a ticket.
