Alex Skolnick Trio

September 11, 2019 @ 8:00 pm
Blues Alley
1073 Wisconsin Ave NW
DC 20007
$25 (Plus $12 Minimum and $5 Fee)

Guitarist Alex Skolnick is probably best known as the guitarist of the punishing thrash metal band (think Metallica) Testament and helped define the sound of thrash in the Bay Area. It’s no surprise that in his work with his namesake jazz trio, he plays arrangements of standards from the rock and metal songbook by groups like Black Sabbath and Scorpions. As a jazz guitarist, educated at the New School, Mr. Skolnick’s tone embodies the oscillating ambient and dense, fusionist textures of six-string mastes like Pat Metheny. Two separate sets at 8 and 10 p.m.
