Vocalist Gregory Porter commands a subdued power on stage; his deep baritone can whisper or belt with the same force it takes most singers to hit their highest notes. His sound his rooted in the classic croon of Nat “King” Cole and the celestial soul of Sam Cooke. He pairs up with Jason Moran, one of the most imaigintive pianists and artists of his generation and a sorcerer on the ivories, a musician that seems to have no limits. The two play together in An Evening of Jazz and Dance at the Kennedy Center’s Opera House. The duo’s performances will be interspersed by, and occasionally accompany new works for dance by the celebrated Tiler Peck, principal dancer at the New York City Ballet, and LINES Ballet director Alonzo King.
This is a livestream performance but will be available for access until August 1.
