Sometimes, when a group of horn players come together for a gig, the line-up becomes a band all its own. Think of the Dap-Kings recording and playing behind all sorts of artists besides Sharon Jones or the J.B.’s gigging on their own without playing behind James Brown. The Beltway Horns is the DMV’s entry into that storied tradition.

The three players, trombonist Greg Boyer, trumpeter Brad Clements and saxophonist Elijah Jamal Balbed hail from the Chuck Brown Band, the cornerstone of D.C.’s go-go acts, but have individually played with a ride range of black music legends like Prince, Maceo Parker, Bootsy Collins and D.C.’s own piano great Marc Cary. They bring all that experience and influence with them on the bandstand.

This is their first gig leading their own group.
