If there’s a drummer that defines the charged electro-jazz-meets-arena rock sound of early 70s fusion, Billy Cobham may be that guy. After playing on two defining fusion titles – Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew and A Tribute to Jack Johnson – Cobham co-founded the multicultural-influenced, trailblazing group the Mahavishnu Orchestra with guitarist John McLaughlin. Here he leads his own group Crosswinds, which performs ambient, meditative fusion material.
