If you’ve been to one of the Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra’sshows, you’ve noticed Brent Birckhead. He’s the sharply dressed alto saxophonist who sits swaying and rooting and smiling beatifically in the front row while others solo; then, when it’s his turn to play, he takes total charge. With parades of eighth notes that are hot as coals and loaded with soul, Birckhead sounds much like a modern-day Cannonball Adderley.
