Trombonist Chris Bates was probably seen by many in the D.C. jazz audience at Jason Moran’s performance of James Reese Europe and the Absence of Ruin at the Kennedy Center in 2018. An alumnus of the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program, he leads his own group at Twins. Two separate sets at 8 and 10 p.m.
