* Cyrus Chestnut Trio

December 26, 2019 @ 8:00 pm
Blues Alley
1073 Wisconsin Ave NW
DC 20007
$30 - $35 (Plus $12 Minimum and $5 Fee)

Cyrus Chestnut is one of the rare, modern jazz pianists to channel the resonating, chiming harmonies and whimsical but lyrical melodic style of pianist Vince Guaraldi. While Chestnut, who also holds a teaching post in the Howard University music program, is fluent in a number of piano styles – including stride, boogie-woogie and gospel – the core of his sound lies in this sweep spot of chromatic lyricism and lush melodies.

His now annual tradition is to take over Blues Alley after Christmas and play every night up to the New Year. Two separate sets at 8 and 10 p.m.
