Flautist David Bertrand is making a strong case for the flute to have more prominence in modern jazz. The young musician, who grew up in Trinidad, brings out the flute’s strong, sharp overtones with the right blend of moderation, and leans into ballads with great lyricality. His compositions simmer with coiled energy and complex harmonies. Two separate sets at 8 and 10 p.m.
