* DC Jazz Fest [Day 5]

September 28, 2020 all-day
D.C. Jazz Festival
Donations Encouraged but Not Required

The final night of the virtual D.C. jazz fest features some beloved, familiar faces on the D.C. jazz and Great Black Music scene. You can watch the entire DCJF on their Facebook page or fans.com

7:00 PM Maimouna Youssef – Maimouna Youssef, aka Mumu Fresh, is one of the best kepy secrets of the DMV region. She’s a Baltmore native that’s been touring with the likes of Common and other members of the Soulquarians for years now. She set the internet on fire when she appeared in August Greene’s (the supergroup of Common, Robert Glasper and Karriem Riggins) Tiny Desk concert and performed her own just a few months later. Her uncompromising, Queen Latifah flow and celestial voice will knock you on your back.

8:00 PM Herb Scott – Herb Scott is a tireless champion of jazz in the District. He can be found most often on Capitol Hill, either leading the Wednesday jazz jam at Mr. Henry’s or advocating in the halls of power as Executive Director of the Capitol Hill Jazz Foundation. On the bandstand, Scott’s alto sax blows bright and clear, often fluttering over straight-ahead swing or with the keyboard sounds of gospel and soul.

9:00 PM Frédéric Yonnet and The Band With No Name – Harmonica player Frederic Yonnet, a native of France and now familiar haunt of D.C., combines the high lonesome, airy whine of classic blues mouth harping with the slick grooves of smooth jazz.
