Hailu Mergia was one of Ethiopia’s most popular keyboardists during the country’s music boom in the early ’70s – part of the afrobeat explosion that also saw the rise of Fela Kuti in Nigeria. Mergia performs organ driven soul jazz not too dissimilar from Dr. Lonnie Smith or Lonnie Liston Smith.

Elijah Jamal Balbed’s Soul Experience opens.
