Listen to Jenna Camille (full disclosure: she is a former CapitalBop intern and occasional contributor) on her latest album 4 Tha Homies, and you’ll hear the sounds up and down U Street in 2020: the sound of black night life to millennials and zoomers of the District. Chest-compressing bass beats, woozy words of sweet nothing sung at a loud whisper, the ethereal electric piano of some neo-soul/jazz band all blur and blend together in the warm night air to make a steamy, delicious soup of life-force and music. She channels that in short bursts, one-to-four minutes long, of frenetic, Flying Lotus-style electronic impressionism.

She plays a live streamed concert for CapitalBop’s “Freedom Summer” series.
