Trumpeter Joseph Brotherton’s confident, full-voiced trumpet sound can be heard in bands of all kinds across the District (and abroad). His horn’s sound wouldn’t be out of place in the first chair of a latin big band, but his experience in small groups allows him to execute jazz lines with care.
Brotherton’s collaborator, pianist/keyboardist Colin Chambers, is an under-the-radar heavyweight in D.C. He’s a natural call for many U Street bandleaders, both for straight-ahead jazz and for fusion and R&B variations on the style.
The two play several times weekly on livestream. Thursdays’ shows are broadcast from Sotto. Stream link: instagram.com/josephbrotherton OR facebook.com/joseph.brotherton1
