There was a time in D.C. history where you couldn’t go one block without hearing the city’s signature sound: a funky beat bopped out on a kit of plastic barrels. The members of the Junkyard Band, one of the major players in the second generation of go-go groups, got their start that way, later bringing their own mix of D.C. funk to venues around the city (even scoring a couple minor hits along the way).
