Even if you’ve never listened to one of Kirk Whalum’s records, you’ve probably heard the smooth jazz saxophonist’s uplifting solo on Whitney Houston’s signature smash-hit “I Will Always Love You.” He’s dabbled across R&B and gospel but his regular sound is a little funky, based on short bursts of notes and the tenor’s more reedy sonority. Two separate sets at 8 and 10 p.m.
