Maria Grand is a rising voice in the creative music world, having worked on projects with luminaries like bandleader Steve Coleman, guitarists Miles Okazaki and Mary Halvorson (with whom she plays now in Code Girl) and pianist Vijay Iyer. Grand favors a more metallic tenor tone that still bends and morphs easily to the tone of the piece; like burnished copper.

Grand headlines a night of creative music at Rhizome that also includes guitarist/singer-composer Ava Mendoza, who orbits both punk rock and free jazz circles, saxophonist John Dikeman and free music duo Sarah Hughes and Jenny Moon Tucker.
