Despite his imposing figure, Thelonius Monk International Institute of Jazz Competition winner 2014  Marquis Hill brings a delicate, light–one could almost say dainty–touch to the trumpet. Yes, but: His Blacktet, a quintet composed of saxophonist, bassists, vibraphone, and drums plays in a frenetic, straight-ahead style that recalls the Jazz Messengers at their most cookin’. Two separate sets at 7 and 9 p.m.
