The Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival returns in a digital format to meet the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 incarnation, titled “The Spirit of the DMV,” will feature three bands per night over three nights. As always, the festival gathers some of the best in the region to perform. In this case, the performances will be streamed from Blue House Live Productions.
The first night features:
7:00 p.m., Joshua Bayer Trio feat. Paul Carr: Straight-ahead guitarist Joshua Bayer plays with a good sense of swing. He is joined by saxophonist, educator and MAJF organizer Paul Carr.
8:00 p.m., Deandrey Howard and Collector’s Edition: Trumpeter Deandrey Howard has been a longtime leader in the straight-ahead scene, an elder of that community (and co-founder of the Jazz & Cultural Society). He plays in an unhurried, almost strolling style that invites you right into the music alongside him. He plays with his regular group Collector’s Edition.
9:00 p.m., 3Divas Jazz Trio: The Three Divas Jazz trio – pianist Jackie Warren, bassist Amy Shook and drummer Sherrie Maricle – are one of the swingin’-est groups in town. The group plays standards and originals that are sure to delight.
