Grammy-winning trumpeter and bandleader Nicholas Payton makes an appearance here with his trio. You may see him ambidextrously accompany his own trumpet solo with his left hand on the keyboard; he then may switch over to singing one of his originals. His stage show is entertaining, and his compositions are structured to sound a lot more cohesive than may seem possible with that small of a band. He performs selections from his 2018 release, Afro-Caribbean Mixtape, a hip-hop, jazz, Caribbean musical presentation that is much a collection of songs as it is a cross-section of cultural experience.
