Mama Hendryx was once part of the vocal trio Labelle, backing famed vocalist Patti LaBelle, and performed a range of hits from doo-wop to funk, including the scandalizing “Lady Marmalade.” Her voiced had faded somewhat, but still drives bands forward through electrified, digital funk with aged power and control.

She performs for WPFW’s Holiday Bash.
