In Patricia Barber, you get wry oddball forthrightness, husky blues, mystery-making abstraction. The singer, composer and pianist is a Guggenheim Fellow and recorded on Blue Note for much of the 1990s and 2000s. She has bubbled just below the surface of truly widespread acclaim for three decades.
