The band Rare Essence is among the founding groups of the go-go movement in Washington, D.C. (some even say the group pioneered the now-universal use of the congas to play the go-go beat). The band first broke nationally in the early 1990s with singles like “Work the Walls” and “Lock It”; it reconvenes for a Thanksgiving week show.
