Under the direction of bassist and vocalist Big Tony, Trouble Funk was one of the defining go-go groups to emerge immediately in the wake of Chuck Brown. They’re more synth driven sound is a bit brasher and more muscular than fellows like Rare Essence and E.U. but they’ve been enjoying something of a recent career renaissance thanks to the attention and support from disciple Dave Grohl (of Foo Fighters and Nirvana). Trouble Funk’s hits “Let Get Small,” “Drop the Bomb,” and “Don’t Touch That Stereo” were big, ambassadorial hits for the go-go movement.
