Trumpeter Wallace Roney is one of those cats that got the classic bop jazz education. He graduated from the Duke Ellington School before studying at Howard and the Berklee College of Music and went on to succeed Terence Blanchard in Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. He still carries the torch for that kind of classicism but draws on the angular harmonies and free-ish playing of modern jazz. Two separate sets at 8 and 10 p.m.
