CapitalBop announces its new youth education program in Deanwood/Lincoln Heights D.C., inviting all middle & high schoolers to Marvin’s Place, a free after-school music session on Thursday afternoons, starting this week at the Riverside Center near Marvin Gaye Park. These open performances and workshops are free for any middle or high school student in the area. Come and explore music through listening, learning and playing, with vocalist/composer Akua Allrich leading an exciting team of musician educators.

Located at the Riverside Healthy Living Center, 5200 Foote St. NE, 4:30p, every Thursday, February-May, register here.

Education

CapitalBop’s education programs have brought live music and learning experiences to students of all ages at the Smithsonian Museum of American History, DC Public Schools and community centers around D.C. We have presented master classes in conjunction with major performances by Linda May Han Oh, Ernest Khabeer Dawkins, Jen Shyu and others.

Until the coronavirus pandemic, we brought monthly, full-band live performances from the city’s finest jazz musicians to DCPS and charter schools in association with The MusicianShip.

In 2026 we’re excited to launch our new weekly youth education program at the Riverside Center in Ward 7, as well as continuing our videography apprenticeship program at Howard University. Support our efforts by donating to CapitalBop today.
