Spotlight Residency Workshop:
Elijah Jamal Balbed

CapitalBop is thrilled to partner with Sitar Arts Center to present a monthly educational event as part of our Spotlight Residency. Each month, our featured Spotlight artist-in-residence will present a short concert with their band for the families in attendance, followed by a workshop for students of all ages.

Our second Spotlight artist-in-residence is saxophonist Elijah Jamal Balbed, a bright star on the D.C. scene who is widely renowned and well-respected as a bandleader, composer, improvisor, and educator. The event will consist of a concert by Balbed and his band, followed by a musician workshop with the students in attendance.

The workshop is all-ages (but focused on grades 5-10), free of charge, and open to the public. It will take place on Friday, September 28th, at 6 p.m., at Sitar Center, 1700 Kalorama Rd NW #101, Washington, DC 20009. The event is preceded by complimentary pizza and soft drinks at 5:30.

All attendees of the workshop, participants and otherwise, will receive free tickets to Balbed’s Sunday performance at Local 16!

Families are welcome to attend the concert, and to stay to watch the following workshop. Please register using the button below, so we know to expect you!
